I have a real laser printer for tough or top-quality jobs, and a Photo-Printer for photos, so I really just needed this device primary for FAX and Scanner capabilities. I also like to use it for simply office style color prints like pie charts and tables. The photo-copier option is really handy too. I hate Ink-Jet because of the cost of the ink, so I use a B&W laser for the big jobs. It's a bit awkward to have 3 different printers, but I like having the right tool for the job.
The Lexmark software actually works pretty well, and is nicely integrated. I can scan from the PC or I can scan right from the Printer; very nice. Usually I chuck the packaged software, but I have found the Lexmark Productivity Suite very useful even though it is quite basic. Most of the time that's all I need.
It's still a bit early for me to judge the quality, but since it didn't cost very much and didn't take much of my time to install and configure it's going to be hard for me to find fault with it. I'm not sure the scanner quality is as good as I would have liked, but it's certainly good enough for 95% of what I use it for. I was never really too concerned with print quality so it gets an easy pass with me there. The Fax was easily configurable, and auto answer was easy to turn off.
I gave it 5 stars because it did exactly what I expected, and the software and integration exceeded my expectations. I hope in 5 years it's still working, I can still buy ink, and I'm still happy with it; then it will have really earned its stars.
